POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for supervising overall operation of the pharmacy department in absence of Pharmacy Director. Requires extensive contact with the other departments in the hospital (nursing, dietary, respiratory, med staff). Also, performs clinical and professional duties as required by regulatory agencies; optimizes patient outcomes.  Directs, oversees, and allocates activities of employees engaged in compounding, mixing, packaging, labelling and dispensing prescribed medications, drugs and other pharmaceuticals for patient care, according to professional standards and State and Federal legal requirement.  Directs and provides consultative advice to nursing and medical staffs.  Answers questions and provides information on drug interactions, side effects, dosage, and procurement of pharmaceuticals.  Follows established procedures concerning quality assurance, security of controlled substances, and disposal of hazardous waste.  Recommends and informs medical personnel of drug applications and characteristics.

  • Delivers safe, accurate and timely patient care that conforms to AH standards departmental goals and the following job duties:
  1. Maintains library of references and copies of regulations with all related support documentation to include ( not all inclusive) invoices, orders,inventories,computer generated records
  2. Manages a well run department with supervision of a trained and dependable staff
  3. Promotes the safe and effective use of medications
  4. Establishes relevant training e.g. IV
  5. Maintains proper distribution throughout the facility
  6. Provides that a pharmacist dispenses and is available after hours
  7. Attends hospital meetings in the absence of the Pharmacy Director and subscribes to policies
  8. Attends meetings that promote benchmarking and best practices.
  9. Provides up to date pharmaceutical care with proper dosing of low volume/ high risk products
  10. Acts in a knowledgable and timely manner for new or unusual situations
  11. Continually keeps abreast of all regulatory standards to maintain compliance with JCAHO/CMS in ongoing prepartation for survey readiness.
  12. Models the way with Customer Service program initiatives through active particpation evidenced by staff representation on committees and events
  • Works diligently to meet every customer’s needs.
  • Accomplishes tasks with the minimum expenditure of time, materials and money with service as the guiding principle.
  • Works productively while on the clock and offers to help others when work is completed.
  • Demonstrates the ability to positively and productively respond to change.
  • Participates in continuous improvement, offering and or implementing methods to improve care and service.

  

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Experience Requirements:

  1. Education: Graduate of an accredited school or college of pharmacy.
  1. Experience: Healthcare systems pharmacy

  

Licensure/Certification Requirements: Licensed as a Registered Pharmacist in North Carolina.

 

Special Qualifications:  Ability to work effectively with other members of the management staff and medical staff. Should possess intutive thinking and proactive leadership skills..
