POSITION SUMMARY:

Performs a variety of duties relating to the patient and the environment, reporting observations to the nurse in charge. Works the assigned unit based on need designated by the nursing supervisor. Assists patients with activities of daily living, provides basic nursing care to non-acutely ill patients and assists in maintenance of a safe and clean environment under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse in charge of the team and/or unit. Maintains regulatory agency requirements, and follows nursing and hospital policies, procedures, and standards as pertinent to scope of practice and hospital role.  

  • Assists in the admission, discharge, and transfer of patients, safeguarding patients’ personal belongings.
  • Performs simple nursing duties in the care of selected patients, as directed by an RN.
  • Assists in moving, lifting, turning, and ambulating patients, using patient lifts as instructed.
  • Maintains a clean and safe environment for the patient.
  • Provides for patient privacy and safety.
  • Provides direct nursing care for assigned patients – comfort, nutritional, and hygiene care
  • Works diligently to meet every customer’s needs.
  • Is courteous to all patient/family members at all times.
  • Participates in continuous improvement, offering and or implementing methods to improve care and service.
  • Enters patient charges for supplies or services within the department
  • Death and Morgue processing
  • Scanning of documents into the Electronic Health Record
  • Observe patient rights at all times, being an advocate for the patient
  • Document accurately and in a timely manner
  • Observe universal precautions

Education/Formal Training:  High School graduate or equivalent preferred.  Requires successful completion of an approved nurse aide training program in North Carolina.

Licensure/Certification:

  • CNA I Certification: Must have current NC Nurse Aide I Registry listing verified through the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services Division of Health Services Regulation with no pending or substantiated findings of abuse, neglect, exploitation, or misappropriation of resident or patient property recorded on State's registry of nurse aides.
  • BLS: Must have current BLS certification through the American Heart Association, or obtain within 30 days of hire date.

Work Experience: Minimum of six months to one year of related work experience preferred but not required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:  Some knowledge of nursing measures used to provide personal hygiene and comfort; procedures and techniques in giving simple treatment in providing bedside nursing care.  Some ability to physically, mentally, and emotional perform activities involved in this role.

Position:  Required flexibility in working different areas, different shifts, week-ends and holidays and in adverse weather conditions.
